equal temperament

Equal temperament

A method of a pitch that makes a pitch divided into twelve equal parts of one octave a semitone. Musical instruments such as modern piano are tuned to equal temperament. By dividing one octave into twelve equal parts, versatility was enhanced and it became easier to modulate than the method of pitch used in various instruments and music. However, it was not beautifully echoing in the interval other than the octave. For this reason, still string instruments and wind instruments are also preferred to make beautiful sounds using genuine rules and the like. Representative methods of pitching include not only equal temperament but also genuine law and Pythagorean temperament.
